Rare Artist Series: Al Tariq - Crime Pays
The album by Al Tariq "God Connections" was another gem I slept on for years. I was always a fan of the Beatnuts but just lost touch with one of the founding members. After playing catch up I was glad to find that this album was as good as their early material was.

Rare Artist Series: Count Bass D - Blues for Percy Carey
Sampling "Hill Street Blues" was something I always wanted to do but never thought of. Ha ha ha. But Count Bass D did and he did it well. I remember asking him years ago if he was going to release an instrumental version of his Dwight Spitz album but he lost all the original beats. Anyhow - here it is....

You Know Nothing About Being A Gangsta (2011 Analog Remix)
Mysterio went back to the lab and remixed this classic song created back in 1995 by E.N.S., Claw and Genghis Khan. Quotes from four different films start out the intro over a laid back beat smothered with mellow samples pulled off of some dusty vinyl records.

Rare Artist Series: Hugh Masakela - Witch Doctor
Hugh Masakela created an incredible song right here. It is hard to make a song be long and yet continue to be interesting. I never got into the Grateful Dead or any other "jam bands" because of that fact. Long, rambling and boring grooves just don't do it for me. I guess I am a man of structure or at least some sense of it. Anyhow - here is a groove that you may dig if you feel the same.

Rare Artist Series: Lightheaded - Speak Your Peace
With all the hip hop that has come out since people had access to create home studios it is hard to keep up with. So back in 2006 I completely slept on this crew. Lightheaded is a "super group" who came together and brought some tight production coupled with complex rhyming in the name of God. I am not a religious person but nevertheless I can tell dope music when I hear it and this is dope.

Rare Artist Series: KRS-1 & Freddie Foxxx - Ruff Ruff
When KRS-1 and Freddie Foxxx released an album recently my hopes were high as I had just listened to this old track before I heard the news. While I gave the new album a whirl a few tracks hit me but just not as much as this one. Kris had stated he used headphones to rap his verses on this song giving it an old school feedback over a super funky beat. Anyhow - here is the classic cut.

Rare Artist Series: Ennio Morricone - Deep Down (Alternate Version)
The movie is what it is - which really is not much, in my opinion besides the props and definitely the music. This song in particular is completely intoxicating with the sultry vocals over the incredible Ennio Morricone musical composition.

Assassins
This is one of my favorite joint by Claw. A song where takes the first person point of view. Done way before a lot of other emcees did a concept track like this. He does it effectively while at the same time dropping knowledge on the School Of Americas a.k.a. The School of Assassins.

Rare Artist Series: Gucci Crew II - NTS
Gucci Crew II were one of my favorite, if not favorite groups, to come out of Miami in the late 80's. The samples they used were much more clean compared to their other counterparts coming out of the south at the time. Just some good humor over funky beats.

Makin Moves
Old school Universal Sounds song set up and delivered by Claw, E.N.S. and Moosie Moe back in 1994.

Rare Artist Series: Jedi Mind Tricks - Get This Low
Despite the convoluted title of the album this song comes from - the song itself is much more straight forward. Definitely something I had slept on back in the day when it leaked out but as time has passed the song has stood against it and still delivers.

Rare Artist Series: Gary Wilson - And Then I Kissed Your Lips
Sometimes it is hard to believe that Gary Wilson recorded this in his parent's basement back in the late 70's. Incredible stuff from a guy who would hang it up right after until decades later starting up again.

Rare Arist Series: Buckshot - Come Follow Me
I never, ever, ever cared for Funkmaster Flex but this is one joint that I give a pass on. Although it samples the same piano by Parliament that Salt'N'Pepa used for "Everybody Get Up" I also like this jam because of Buckshot. This was the time he was getting into that sing-song flow with the remixes of "Buck Em Down" and "I Gotcha Open". I just dug it back then and I still dig it now.
