Rare Artist Series: DJ Quik - Flow For Sale
Yet another example of DJ Quik's stellar sound off his latest album. They just don't make west coast g-funk like they used... well, actually, he does.

Rare Artist Series: Cormega feat Red Alert, Parrish Smith, Grand Puba, KRS One and Big Daddy Kane - VIII
A posse cut from five rap pioneers set up by Cormega. Was never a big fan of Cormega but the album this is off of made me want to go back and listen again to his earlier material. Anyhow - this is a joint that gets heavy rotation.

Rare Artist Series: Biz Markie - Bad Day
A bonus cut from the EP "Friends" finds the Biz talking about a bad day he is having. Definitely one of the songs I had slept on for years and stumbled across a few months ago. Solid stuff from a rap pioneer.

Rare Artist Series: Big Daddy Kane - Taste Of Chocolate Intro
The extended mix of this, found on a 12" is just as good, but this is the original off the album. I might post the other later. I was always a huge Kane fan back in the day and would defend him as much as I could besides the R&B nonsense. I watched a documentary the other day about him and it is true that he was pioneer and ahead of his time in that aspect but I still don't listen to R&B like that. Anyhow here is a...

Rare Artist Series: Lords of The Underground - Funky Child
What an incredible energetic track. Marley Marl laced the Lords with this beat and Do It All delivered it some serious justice. Possibly one of the last times James Brown was sampled and put to good effect.

Rare Artist Series: Last Emperor, Masta Ace and Trugoy - Clear Day
Another great posse cut featuring the Last Emperor. Prince Paul produced the beat and the two emcees accompanying the Emp provide some dope verses to accentuate the "feel good" song.

Rare Artist Series: Rage Against The Machine - Hadda Be Playing On A Juke Box
Off of one of their EP's comes one of my favorite Rage Against the Machine songs. You can tell from the beginning that Zach De La Rocha is dissing his audience - must be from Lalapalooza or something like that. Anyhow he delivers a reciting of an Allen Ginsberg speech that is extremely effective over the live instrumentation.

Rare Artist Series: Black Moon Shit Iz Real
A John Klemmer sample was put to good use on this raw cut off Black Moon's best album to date. It is a classic in my opinion. I remember smoking out to this just nodding my head back and forth entering the mind of Buckshot. Back when hip hop was hip hop. Ha ha ha - whatever that means. Still good.

Rare Artist Series: Big Punisher - Dream Shatterer
Christopher Lee Rios was nasty on the mic. Skillful in ways that many rappers could not even compete with. His life ended short just like so many other talented emcees. Anyway - it is too bad he didn't have as much leftover material like Tupac does but we can always listen to the classics like...
