Kaotic Disciples of the Poet: 10 Foot Jim

Three emcees and one incredible producer whipped up this very original EP back in 1997. J.O.B., a member of Universal Sounds, had his own group, Kaotic Disciples of the Poet, whom he continued making music with after Universal Sounds disbanded.

This EP includes two of my favorite songs by them "10 Foot Jim" and the Five-Percent influenced "Bionic". Also included are two versions of their anthem "It's All Kaotic". Word on the street is the J.O.B. is in the process of doing a reunion album with the Disciples in 2010.

Each week I will drop one gem off of this EP.

Freestyle Friday = MMC Intro

An intro for an old show put together by Claw and MJB. Complete with wild sound effects and MJB impersonating a newscaster it tries to be serious but in turn ends up being quite hilarious.

Enemies (Remix Part Deux) Live 1997 QJ

The classic "Enemies" track performed live in 1997. There were about three different versions of this staple song and I believe that this beat can only be found on this live version. DJ Cream and Aya Da Storm provide backing vocals for the three emcees.

Jakes Jamboree Session #2

A fourteen part series from the session up in Connecticut at Lamada's Laboratory. Live drums, bass, keys, kalimba, turntables, etc. provide the tools for which these guys used to just havesome fun making music.

I Am Mr. Condom!

1991. A funny little track composed by Tribe Money with back ups by Romanoff and Moosie Moe. Definitely different from what was to come but still had that good humor.

Kaotic Disciples of the Poet: Word Trip

J.O.B., a member of Universal Sounds, had his own group, Kaotic Disciples of the Poet, whom he continued making music with after Universal Sounds disbanded.

Each week I will drop one gem from these three emcees with J.O.B. behind the boards.

Kaotic Disciples of the Poet performed this track live in 1997.

Chocolate Thai (Extended Mix)

Probably the first beat Mysterio composed on the ASR-10 back in 1992. This was the beginning of Universal Sounds. Before Baby Boy (Melquan Armstrong) joined Constant Deviants, and became known as M.I., he put in work with Moosie Moe and Mysterio.

There were a couple of versions of this song but this is the Extended Mix lasting a ridiculous eleven plus minutes. However, the beat is so smooth it is a pleasure to here it for so long. The rhymes are on some straight weed tribute with both emcees spinning some stories.

Boo Ya!

"I put a cherry on top, booya" - Jackie Brown

Claw created this bubbling beat back in 2001 for Anoir and Cise. A throwback to the days of 2 Live Crew with a nod to the dirty south style that was coming around at the time. Deep bass and electric funk guitar move in perfect rhythm with the swinging drum track. Pure sex rhymes were poured over the music accentuated by the sample of Robert Deniro and Bridget Fonda getting it on in front of the cameras.

NOTABLE QUOTES:
"I love the way you shake it/ Especially when you naked/ And every orgasm I know you never fake it" - Anoir Akbar

"Later on we chilled showed me some love with a hug/ That's all that happened?/ Nah, hit me with beelzebub" - Cise

Great Paper Chase

A Keystone Cops theme and sample from "Killing Zoe" kick off this epic tale of the Great Paper Chase. Then enters the chimes, horn delays and deep bass over a crunchy drum track topped with some "Goodfellas" samples; way before they were grossly overused years later. 1994 was a good year and this is one cut that stands out to me over time. Although the mix is fairly muddy the concept and lyrics still shine through. Can't wait for the Mysterio remix!

NOTABLE QUOTES:
"Cause Niggas that's deep in the game never come out the same/ Or don't emerge at all - they fall victim to the system/ And stay in repetitive ways that got em seeing lesser days" - E.N.S.

"Gotta pay the rent for my residence/ Chasing after dead presidents/ Hesitant to think twice/ Of things I gotta do to survive" - Fred Dogs

Magmatic

The first in a trilogy of space sagas that Universal Sounds came up with over the years. Over a celestial Mysterio track MJB and T-Booth lay down very descriptive lyrics where they give you a glimpse of their five year journey through space and time.

NOTABLE QUOTES:
"Give up the goods and while you're at it lose up the falsehoods/ I'm dusting - busting the trees in the woods/ I'd say can you feel it but what can you feel?/ Saying you killed the world and yelling shit is real!" - MJB

"Who's the captain of the ship with Grimlock by his side?/ De-cloak like a Klingon and rip out your hide/ Eruptions are deadly so prepare for the worst/ Cause when I bust out on the mic I leave your ass singed and burned" - T-Booth

Angles (Optiskept Solo Demo)

This is the Optiskept (now known as Sinima Beats) demo for the track that would later appear on the Time-Space Continuum album as "Angles" with Kwote and Anoir Akbar.

Smoothness

This was a Claw and Moosie Moe collabo over a Mysterio beat flowing like water out of a faucet. Both emcees drop lyrics that compliment the smooth yet bouncing track with Fred Dogs adding some cuts in the background. Pure hip hop from the 1993-94 era.

Jazzy Jake

Cise tooled up this Lamada track with his rhymes back in 2001.

Bag (Version 1)

A little gem from the 2001 era of Universal Sounds. Kwote Scriptures over a jazzy Mysterio mix.

NOTABLE QUOTES:
"The anger that I consume can fill a room/ Causing sonic booms - killing your whole platoon/ So beware of the stare/ Even though I'm not there" - Kwote
